You could make a BW student feel “at home” in YOUR home
JUST LIKE HOME needs individuals and host families, of any age, to match with college students and provide whatever gifts and talents you desire to share with them throughout the school year. Perhaps you could:
¨ Bake cookies, etc. for or with them — maybe a birthday cake! ¨ Provide them with a home-cooked meal now and then. ¨ Give them a survival food basket during exam time, or a quiet place to study. ¨ Provide a washer/dryer when quarters run low. ¨ Give recommendations on local services, including medical. ¨ Give them a ride to church and someone to sit with. ¨ Most important of all — this is an opportunity for them (and you) to make some new friends.
All would depend on what you feel comfortable with and the needs of the student. To become involved or for further information, call Minna Mortensen @ 440-734-3905, Nancy Goette @ 440-234-3821 or the church office 440-243-1144.
Established in 1986, Just-Like-Home provides support for the BW students who sign up. It's purpose is to give the students a "home away from home" feel through: care packages, dinner, a place to get away off campus, help with special needs, a friend to attend a concert or sporting event in which the student is participating, or someone to sit with in church to name a few. Students are paired up with a church member/family. Potlucks: There are usually 6-7 Potlucks throughout the school year for paired participants. Often the potlucks feature: music, games to get better acquainted, fellowship and good food, held in the Fellowship Hall after service. We also encourage the students to get involved with the church in any way that interests them. If you have any question, contact Nancy Goette. |
